Bus Tours and Community Presentations
Involving local people in the construction of the highway was a key objective for Southern Gateway Alliance and one we are proud to say was achieved.
Around 74% of our total workforce consisted of people and business that live and operate within the Peel region. Their skills, expertise and local knowledge helped to ensure we achieved the best outcomes for the project and met our construction schedule.
The Alliance’s focus on expanding local capability and contributing to the region’s economic development generated many significant contracts in the region. More than 375 contracts were awarded, with 36% of these to local companies, representing some $101 million of local investment.
Such investment enabled many suppliers to work close to home and expand their business providing further employment opportunities for local people.
By participating in the Kwinana Freeway extension and Forrest Highway local
people helped to create their own legacy and connect their communities.
