Marlee Reserve Boardwalk – Legacy Project
Southern Gateway Alliance is working with the City of Mandurah and Friends of Marlee to construct a trail network through the Marlee Reserve for local community use.
The existing network will be enhanced by adding additional limestone tracks throughout the area as well the construction of a boardwalk, with seating, through the Marlee Swamp.
The trail network will connect with the pedestrian underpass, Black Swan Lake, Stock Road cycle path and Kwinana Freeway extension cycle path.
The original limestone tracks will be retained, however, the width will be reduced from six metres to four metres and revegetation of the track will occur.
Various native species including Tuart and Banksia trees will be planted throughout the area and gates will be installed to prohibit trail bike riders from entering the reserve.
The route has been designed to minimise disturbance to the existing vegetation and is based on similar amenities in the region.
Construction of the boardwalk commenced in May 2010 and is expected to be complete when the MER is opened to traffic later in the year.
